If you run a hotel, lodge, restaurant, mall, or office park in Zimbabwe, you already know this: water is mood. A well-designed feature turns a lobby into a welcome, a courtyard into a destination, and a garden path into a photo spot guests can’t resist.
Our job at Premium Pools is to design and build water features and fountains that look beautiful, sip water and power (not gulp), and are easy for your team to live with.

Start with the feeling, then choose the form
Before we talk pumps and nozzles, we’ll walk the site and ask what you want guests to feel: calm lobby hush, lively café vibe, or dramatic “wow” at sunset? That answer shapes everything — volume, height, lighting, and placement.
Harare courtyards often want a low, textural sound that doesn’t fight conversation. At safari lodges, an edge-lit rill or cascade can pull the eye towards the view without stealing it. For malls and office parks, a centerpiece fountain that photographs well (and stays tidy) is the goal.
What we build (popular Zimbabwean setups)
- Rills & reflecting pools: thin sheets that glow at dusk; minimal splash, easy to wind-manage.
- Cascades & water walls: a vertical statement without big footprints — brilliant for lobbies and terraces.
- Bubblers & jets: playful, programmable effects for plazas and retail; height auto-throttles in wind.
- Sculptural bowls & tiered features: classic silhouettes that stay elegant with modern lighting.
- Natural-stone streams & lily-free ponds: the “organic” look, engineered as a recirculating system (no stagnant water).
(If you’ve got an old koi pond you’re tired of — we can convert it to a clear, recirculating, low-water feature that won’t be a mosquito committee meeting.)
Built for Zimbabwean realities (quietly the secret sauce)
Water & power are precious here. We design the hydraulics first:
- Closed-loop recirculation with correctly sized pipework, so pumps work with the water, not against it.
- Variable-speed pumps programmed to idle during quiet hours and gently ramp for peak times.
- Wind sensors on exposed features (Victoria Falls breezes are real): they lower jet height to stop mist drift and wasted top-ups.
- Auto top-up tied to your municipal/borehole line with backflow protection — no bucket brigades.
- Backwash/flush lines to a small recovery tank where practical, so maintenance doesn’t mean dumping treated water.
- Filtration & strainers sized for dust season and jacaranda petals; easy to open, clean, and close.
For power reliability, we can integrate inverter/backup capacity sized to keep the water moving (no green surprises after load-shedding).
Materials & finishes that age gracefully
Sun, dust and busy seasons are tough on surfaces. We specify:
- Stone, porcelain, or premium plaster that resists chalking and cleans easily.
- Sealed copings and joints so micro-leaks don’t sneak up on you.
- Non-slip surrounds where guests linger or staff work.
- LED lighting (warm, dimmable) that flatters water without harsh glare — magic at golden hour.
We’ll mock up at night if your hero moment is sunset. That’s when photos happen.
Sound, splash & safety (the invisible design work)
A soothing hush needs different hydraulics from a lively fizz. We tune decibels, throw and droplet size so the feature reads the way you want without wetting nearby paths.
We keep sightlines clear, set depths and edges sensibly, and plan drainage so passing shoes stay dry. Where little hands can reach, we soften corners and specify low-voltage lighting.
Water quality without the drama
Clear water is about movement and control. We run gentle, continuous circulation through simple cartridge or sand filtration, and use low-dose sanitisation (UV or small chlorine feed) to keep biofilm away. Borehole water? We’ll test and plan for minerals so scale doesn’t frost your stone within a month.
Operations: for the team who actually runs it
A gorgeous feature that’s a pain to service won’t stay gorgeous. We design access panels you can open without gymnastics, valves that are labelled, and clean-out baskets right where the leaves collect.
Your handover includes one-page weekly checks, a monthly deep-clean routine, and a quick list of what to look for after big winds or storms.
Renovations & conversions (fastest wins)
Have an old pond that leaks or smells tired? We can usually:
- Reseal or reline the basin and re-plumb it as a closed loop.
- Add leaf capture & better filtration so clarity lasts.
- Fit VSD pumps & wind control to tame splash and top-ups.
- Refresh stonework/tiling and LED lighting so it photographs like new.
We’ll phase works around events and trading hours to keep revenue intact.
Manager’s checklist (copy this into your brief)
- Closed-loop recirculating system with variable-speed pump and wind-aware controls.
- Filtration & leaf capture sized for dust season and petals; easy service access.
- Auto top-up with backflow prevention; plan recovery/flush where possible.
- Finish & sealing for UV and minerals; non-slip surrounds and tidy drainage.
- Lighting plan for dusk photos; low-glare, warm LEDs.
- Simple SOPs and labelled valves so staff changes don’t derail quality.
Tick these and your feature will look premium and behave on the balance sheet.
FAQs
Will a fountain waste water in our climate?
Not if it’s closed-loop, sized correctly, and paired with wind control, covers during long shutdowns, and smart filtration. Most “waste” comes from splash/mist and poor maintenance — both solvable in design.
Can we run off borehole water?
Yes. We’ll pre-treat for minerals so you don’t get scale or cloudy film, and we’ll protect finishes accordingly.
How loud will it be?
As loud as you want it. We tune height, nozzle type and basin size to the sound brief. Courtyard café? We’ll keep voices comfortable. Grand plaza? We can turn it up.
What about mosquitoes?
Constant movement + basic sanitisation = no stagnant water. We design to keep surfaces sweeping cleanly, with no dead corners.
How long does it take to build?
Most features complete in 3–8 weeks depending on civil works and custom fabrication. Renovations are often quicker.
